About this tool

The Chord Progression Generator turns a mood and a root note into songwriter-ready progressions drawn from common pop, jazz, and cinematic vocabularies. Each chord is rendered as notes, on a piano keyboard, and on a twelve-fret guitar neck so you can pick whichever view fits how you play. Use it to sketch song ideas, study harmony, or unblock a writing session.

FAQ

How are the progressions chosen for each mood?+

Each mood is tied to a few tried-and-true progressions from that vibe — major-key pop for Happy, ii–V–I and turnarounds for Jazzy, Phrygian and Neapolitan motion for Tense, and so on.

Does the guitar view show a specific fingering?+

No — it highlights every place the chord’s notes appear across the first twelve frets. Pick the shape closest to your hand, or use it as a road map for voicings and arpeggios.

Why does the root note show darker than the others?+

The darker amber marker identifies the root of that particular chord so you can orient fingerings and voice leading quickly.

Can I use these in my songs?+

Yes. Chord progressions themselves aren’t copyrightable — these are common harmonic patterns used across countless recordings.
